Is there anything more fun than getting in the car with your best mates and heading out on the open road?

Whether for fun or just to get out of town, we've been lucky to enjoy several road trips together exploring yarn-y pursuits outside of London. From Wonderwool to Unravel, to the TOFT Alpaca Farm, to knitting retreats in Wales and Gloucestershire, and exploring crafty places from Brighton to Bath, we've seen a lot and thought it only fair to share.

Funnily enough, we've also had requests to take The Great London Yarn Crawl on the road! It was an idea we'd already been mulling over, so we hope you'll be excited about our first Yarn in the City event happening on Saturday, 29 November, 2014: A Road Trip to the Bath Christmas Market.

Itinerary: What you can expect

09:00 - Meet up with Rachel and Allison in West London at Hammersmith (exact location: 190 Shepherd's Bush Road opposite the fire station).

09:15 - It's wheels up as we travel in style via coach towards Bath, merrily knitting away and getting to know new friends.

11:30 - First stop, The Shed. Located on the edge of Bath, The Shed is home to the fabulous new yarn boutique A Yarn Story. Stocking luxury yarns from around the world, A Yarn Story carries brands such as Shibui, Malabrigo, Skein, and SweetGeorgia, as well Hedgehog Fibres, The Uncommon Thread, Porpoise Fur and Kettle Yarn Co.

The Shed is also home to a farm shop and deli, restaurant, boutique shops, gallery and spa. Their Christmas market will also be happening on this day and is sure to have lots of tempting goodies for your Christmas shopping

13:30 - It's back on the bus and off to the centre of town where we'll be dropped off at the Bath Christmas Market in front of the Bath Abbey. From here you'll have the rest of the afternoon to grab a bite to eat and explore on your own or in small groups:

  • the Christmas Market with over 180 chalets of crafts and artisan products; and
  • Country Threads, a charming quilt shop just opposite Wool, perfect for those of you who are multi-craftual!

17:30 - We meet up at  Wool, a yarn shop tucked just around the corner from the market with more yarn-y goodies to tempt you such as Rowan, Debbie Bliss, Lang, Katia, Lopi, Bergere de France, Juniper Moon Farm and more. They are keeping the shop open late for a special private session with festive snacks for us.

18:30 - It's back on the bus and home towards London - hopefully with much of our Christmas knitting planned or gifts checked off our lists!

Tickets and the fine print

Tickets are £28 and will be available on our website from Monday, 3rd November, 2014 in limited supply. Tickets are final sale and no refunds will be issued if you can't make it. Timings are approximate and subject to change.

Update #2: Due to popular demand we've been able to allocate a few spaces on the bus for people from outside of London who wish to join in the road trip fun! These tickets will be available for £20 but participants are responsible for their own transportation costs to and from Bath, and for finding their own way from central Bath to The Shed to meet the coach at it's first stop at 11:30am.

Update: We've received a few questions already about this trip and yes, transport from London is included in the price of the ticket. Unfortunately we don't have an option for people outside of London to join us as the transport costs are upped significantly when we have multiple stops outside of London. If we're able to come up with a solution we will post it here and update everyone via Ravelry and our social media accounts however it may be something that happens closer to the date of the event. Thanks! A&R
