It's no secret that we here at Yarn in the City are big fans of Louise Zass-Bangham, aka Inspiration Knits. Louise has just launched her new book, Knit Play Colour, at last month's Yarndale, and we're thrilled to be part of the blog tour for the book!
The book features 10 accessory patterns, ranging from cowls and shawls to blankets. The yarns featured include wonderful vendors including Blue Sky Alpacas, Countess Ablaze, EasyKnits, The Knitting Goddess, MillaMia, Miss Babs, West Yorkshire Spinners and Whimzy. Louise's deft hand with colour and wildly variegate yarns shines through in patterns like Yarn Tamer, which pairs variegated and solid yarns to great effect.
The real strength in this book is the way in which knitters are encouraged to take control over their own knitting. For each pattern, Louise has included a "Standard" version, but then she delves into how to make each piece your own, by changing the colours, the yarn weight or the gauge.
Trailblazer, worked in EasyKnits Ziplight on the left, and SweetGeorgia Yarns Cashlux Spark on the right.
Included for each pattern are photos of swatches in different colours and gauges, and extensive notes on how different choices will affect the finished piece.
We've got a digital copy of Knit Play Colour to give away, so please leave a comment on this post and let us know what pattern you'd like to knit, and wether you'd do the Standard version or make your own variations. Entries will close at 11:59 pm on Friday, 16th October, and we will draw a winner over the weekend! Please be sure you leave some way for us to contact you!
Head over on over to the Inspiration Knits Ravelry group (where there's an ongoing KAL for Yarn Tamer), or find Louise on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest and stay up to date with all the goings on.
