On the Road in Denver!

In this, the first of our new series of traveling yarn shop reviews, we'd like to introduce you to the epic Fancy Tiger Crafts in Denver, CO.

Located on Broadway, Fancy Tiger is accessible by car (they have a parking lot!) or by public transport, and their website includes good directions and details for both types of transport.

When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the space...so much space. To be fair, Denver is in the western high plains of the United States and there is a lot of real estate available. But this shop just keeps on going, and going and going, with more goodies around every corner.

First let's talk about the sewing side of things (saving the best-yarny bits for last). There's some pretty spectacular fabrics:

There are patterns from Sewholic, Grainline Studio, Thread Theory, Olive + S, Merchant & Mills and the Slow Sewing Studio. To go with the gorgeous fabrics, there are ribbons and buttons and haberdashery galore. In all, a sewist's dream.

But really, the reason I went to Fancy Tiger was to check out the yarns. And I spent a wonderfully happy hour wandering around squishing and (mostly internally) squeeing and smiling a bit goofy smile. Feast your eyes on my favorites:

There were even some familiar, UK-based woolly faces represented.

There was also a wealth of fibres and handspun yarns represented. I did not escape unscathed, coming away with a skein of the Sincere Sheep Cormo fingering, and a braid of BFL from MJ Yarns in Lafayette, CO. And when I was done taking in all the colour and inspiration and beauty? I went across the street and had amazing peach ice cream for lunch. Result.
