Started by one of the UK's knitting magazines, Let's Knit, Yarn Shop Day has become an annual celebration of Local Yarn Stores. We really love the boost that it gives shops and shop owners, and that fibre lovers have an opportunity to discover shops near and new to them!
And hey, it's a great excuse to post pics of yummy yarn porn!
With all that in mind and knowing how much we love to promote our London shops, we reached out to shops taking part in this year's Great London Yarn Crawl 2017 (did you know it's our 5th anniversary?!) and asked them what their plans were for this Saturday. If you're looking for your own ways to show your love this Yarn Shop Day, check out the shops below:
220 Railton Road
London SE24 0JT
If you're in the south end of London, it's quite possible that Sharp Works is your local! This tiny shop packs in a lot of yarn and notions. On Saturday they'll be giving away free patterns from Debbie Bliss (while stocks last) and celebrating all day with 10% off all purchases over £2.
The Village Haberdashery
West Hampstead Square
London NW6 2BR
Fancy checking out where we'll be having our World Wide Knit in Public Day event? The Village Haberdashery have brand new digs on West Hampstead Square - just opposite West Hampstead tube. Finally a space to spread out their wonderful fabrics - and expand their yarn selection too! TVH will be offering 10% off all yarn purchases all day on Saturday.
With south and north ends of the city covered, how about east? These next two shops are only 20 minutes apart by bus and part of the East London Yarn Triangle if you fancy making your own mini yarn crawl on your day out:
Knit With Attitude
127 Stoke Newington High Street
London N16 0PH
The lovely folks at Knit With Attitude have a lot planned for Yarn Shop Day with the launch of their Homeward Bound Shawl KAL. Designer Natalie Selles (and Knit With Attitude shop assistant!) will be doing tutorials on garter stitch intarsia between 12 and 3 for those who want to start their own Homeward Bound Shawl. Homeward Bound Shawl kits have also been restocked and will be available in three different colourways.
Knit With Attitude will also be debuting the brand new BFL High Twist sock yarn from Qing Fibre - hand dyed by Laila Qing right here in London! The shop will also have goodie bags for the first 10 customers to spend over £10 in the shop, and they'll also have cake and refreshments in their knitting lounge in people feel like hanging out for a bit on the day!
Wild and Woolly
116 Lower Clapton Road
London E5 0QR
Finally, from noon until 6pm Wild and Woolly will be celebrating Yarn Shop Day along with their three year anniversary by hosting the East London All Stars: designers, dyers and moth-knitters! The line up includes:
- Anna Maltz who will have samples and patterns including her newly released Penpal
- East London Knit's Renée Callahan
- Jane Lithgow with new accessory samples and patterns
