Episode 51: Happy Yule

We’ve just wrapped up our last knit night of the year at the pub so we’re in pretty good spirits! We’ve got a very low-key Christmas episode of the podcast for you for our last episode of the year. So grab some eggnog, or a nightcap or a hot chocolate (with some Baileys) and kick back with us!

First a word from our sponsor:

The Loveliest Yarn Company is a new online yarn shop bringing you the loveliest yarn and knitting accessories.  Buying yarn online can be a bit fraught so they have gathered the best into one place.  They have knit, washed and worn everything so people know it’s all been tried and tested by knitters.

The Loveliest Yarn Company stock artisan hand dyed yarn from Life in the Long Grass, organic merino from Rosy Green Wool, some great stalwarts of the yarn world from West Yorkshire Spinners, irresistible accessories from Merchant and Mills and lots more.  All from theloveliestyarncompany.co.uk.

Podcast listeners can get 10% off  with the code YITCEnabled2016.  If you aren’t shopping for yarn at the moment, sign up for their newsletter on the site.  As YITC has international listeners, we currently ship to countries in the EU, Australia and New Zealand.  And they will be adding more countries as they grow. Welcome to The Loveliest Yarn Company!

News and Events:

The Pom Pom Quarterly Christmas Party is happening this coming Friday, December 16th if you’re in London.

15th January: Waltham Abbey Wool Show

What we’re working on:

Allison is on track with Harry's Gryffindor scarf, but is also working on the lovely Atwater Hat in New Lanark Mills yarn. Her Sonder Shawl is almost done too, and she's making good progress on some slippers for her mom and MIL. The sewing projects are taking a bit of a hit though...

Rachel is working on Beyond Sock Yarn x 2, Christmas Jumpers x 2 (yarn is dyed!), and maybe some other things for Christmas presents (i.e. a woven stole for her mom and a brioche scarf for her Dad).

Getting ready for Christmas:

We chat about our Christmas plans, cat-proofing the Christmas tree, curry sauce and chips and selfish knitting for post-holiday relaxation.

Wrap up:

We are thinking about themes and content for next year - if you have anything you're interested in having us talk about, please reach out and let us know.

You can find the podcast on iTunes and Stitcher Radio and us on InstagramFacebook, and Twitter, in our Yarn in the City group on Ravelry, or in person on Wednesday nights at our knit night at The Goat on the Rise between 7 and 10pm. Everyone’s really friendly and we hope to see you there!

Have a wonderful holiday season and we'll be back in the New Year!

Yarnporium vendor highlights: Pom Pom Quarterly designer visits with Stephen West and Justyna Lorkowska

We put a call out to our vendors a while ago to find out what special goodies they were bringing to the Yarnporium so that we could share them all with you in a series of blog posts leading up to the event.

Do you have the latest issue of PPQ yet? You can get it on their stand at the Yarnporium!

Our friends at Pom Pom Quarterly got back to us with news that in addition to having the samples from their latest issue, they will also be hosting a couple of designer visits on their stand. We're very excited to help them share their news that both Stephen West of WestKnits and Justyna Lorkowska of Lete's Knits will be doing meet and greets and signing books and patterns!

Justyna will be on the stand from 11am to 1pm on the Saturday and signing copies of the latest issue of Pom Pom Quarterly, featuring her stunning new sweater design Tallat. Tallat is a glamorous winter knit whipped up quickly in a chunky yarn.

Playful details at the cuffs and hem are sure to make Tallat a cosy favourite

If you're planning your shopping list already, you'll need between 900 and 1,500 metres of chunky yarn, depending on your size. We think this would be a great woolly knit for Wovember!

Following on from Justyna's signing, Stephen West will be on the PPQ stand from 1-3pm on Saturday, and again from 12-2pm on Sunday signing copies of his latest book, WestKnits BestKnits Number 1 - Shawls.

Filled with 13 of Stephen's favourite shawl designs from the last three years, WestKnits BestKnits Number 1 - Shawls includes last year's mystery knitalong shawl The Doodler.

The book also includes more fan favourites like Exploration Station (shown on the cover), and Dotted Rays.

Of course the book wouldn't be complete with including patterns featuring Stephen's long-running obsession with brioche and includes the patterns for both the Askews Me Shawl and the stash-busting Briochevron Wrap.

What could make a shawl more snuggly? Brioche, of course!

We're incredibly excited to welcome both Justyna and Stephen to the Yarnporium and hope you'll make plans to stop by the Pom Pom Quarterly stand to say hello!

(And if you fancy expanding your own brioche skills there are a handful of spaces still available in Renée Callahan's Brioche Next Steps workshop on Sunday!)
